Christa Berz - Porzellan

my work

porcelain
is my material,
paper
is my thematic focus.
inspiration
is something that for more than 30 years I have drawn from the well-nigh inexhaustible constructural diversity of paper - rolled, crumpled, torn, layered, folded or signed.
the goal
of my work is to create from the porcelain an illusion of fragile evanescence and to transmute this with the aid of fire into a hard, durable material.
Thus the initial years of my career as an artist were primarily spent in creating wafer-thin vases, book objects and "crumple-crinklies".

Since 2007 I have been exploring the expressionistic options of relief. Here I utilise the interaction of light and shadow caused by the disparate structures and configurations of narrow porcelain strips.
